Weekend Warrior

Hello Fit Fam,

I hope everyone is well today. Weekends are perfect for catching up on a lot of rest and relaxation. Additionally, they are useful for preparing for the work and training week ahead. Mondays are often regarded as the most dreaded day of the week and if that’s the case, then planning in advance will ease the challenge of getting into work mode. Exercising on Mondays has has the capacity to increase productivity, energy, healthy habits and most importantly, reducing the impact of stress.

Whether you train in the morning or at night, training on Mondays will promote continued success in the gym and at work. If you miss that crucial first day hitting the weights, then you will most likely miss all your training sessions for the remainder of the week. Experiencing mentally exhausting days without exercise has the potential to lead to poor nutritional choices, decreased energy, poor quality of sleep and heightened stress. The quantitative impacts of these consequences can significantly affect your attitude and ability to produce high quality work, making you less efficient and perhaps grumpy. Furthermore, any progress that’s made in the gym is slowed or reduced, which will lead to a plateau or regression in strength and stamina.

In order to anticipate the negative outcomes from a lack of exercise and preparedness, we must utilize the weekends to create a blueprint for the ensuing gym and work week. This preparation entails achieving good quality sleep, cooking, laundry, spending time with family or friends, exercise, stretching and a lot of love and levity. Hopefully you’re able to leave work at work and check those emails in the morning. It’s important to disconnect from work and allow yourself to mentally recharge and release some stress. Taking daily walks is one of the best ways to decompress the mind and minimize stress. Look to achieve 7,500-12,500 steps daily.

In a nutshell, take advantage of consecutive days off by becoming a weekend warrior and planning ahead. If Mondays or training during the week is hard for your schedule, then exercise more on the weekends allowing for more flexibility on missed training sessions during the week. The key is to strategize your life by preparing your meals in advance, getting your gym bag ready, catching up on sleep, checking on upcoming family/friends events and making yourself a priority!!! Consistent exercise, achieving good quality sleep, eating well and reducing stress are all important for improving cardiovascular health and enhancing your quality of life. So, make your gym sessions a priority and do not cancel on yourself because if you do, it can lead to a more stressful and less productive quality of life both at home and at work!

If you require a little guidance and support on how to utilize the weekends to your advantage please do not hesitate to reach out.
